The Era of Global Aging: The Gerontological Society of America's Annual Meeting To Present New Research on Hot Topics in Aging

The Gerontological Society of America is inviting all journalists to attend its 60th Annual Scientific Meeting — the country's largest multidisciplinary conference in the field of aging. This event is taking place from November 16th – 20th, 2007 at the Hilton San Francisco. Media representatives can register free of charge.

This year's theme is "The Era of Global Aging: Challenges and Opportunities." An estimated 3,500 professionals are expected to attend the four-day gathering, which includes more than 450 scientific sessions. Among the highlights are:

  • Special Guests: Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Butler, president of the International Longevity Center, is the meeting's keynote speaker. Civic Ventures Founder and CEO Marc Freedman will address baby boomers' changing attitudes toward retirement, as outlined in his new book "Encore: Finding Work That Matters in the Second Half of Life." And Eric Dishman, director of Intel's Health Research & Innovation Group, is slated to showcase his work on decreasing seniors' health care costs while increasing their quality of life.
  • Networking Opportunities: Join the renowned Journalists' Exchange on Aging (JEoA) for an informal discussion of emerging developments on the age beat. Plus, don't miss JEoA Founder Paul Kleyman's special symposium on the use of aging language stereotypes in the media. Both sessions are on Saturday, November 17th.
  • Press Briefings: Reporters will have direct access to leading experts presenting cutting edge research. While the briefing schedule has not yet been finalized, visit the online program schedule for a complete listing of the meeting's presentations.

The complimentary media registration allows access to all sessions (with the exception of ticketed events and pre-conference workshops) and the Exhibit Hall. Badges and printed program materials can be picked up from the Press Room, located in room Union Square 11 of the Hilton.
