The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) — in cooperation with the CR Society — invites reporters to “Increasing Health Span with Calorie Restriction,” a press briefing taking place at GSA’s upcoming Annual Scientific Meeting in Atlanta, GA.

Date and Time:
Friday, November 20, 9 to 10 a.m. EST.

Location and Call-in Information:
The briefing will be held in Room 212 of the Hilton Atlanta, located at 255 Courtland Street NE. Journalists can apply for a complimentary media registration online at www.geron.org/ampress.

Reporters who cannot attend in person can listen and ask questions by toll-free conference line. Please dial in at least ten minutes before the start of the briefing. The call-in numbers are as follows:

Canadian toll free: 866-682-1172
International toll: 302-709-8337

Focus:
Calorie restriction has been shown to increase health and longevity in a variety of animal species including, most recently, primates. GSA’s meeting will host a concurrent conference of the CR Society, a membership organization of individuals practicing calorie restriction. During the briefing, this group’s invited scientists will explore the latest basic and clinical research pertinent to calorie restriction: protein and carbohydrate restriction as a life extension factors; the role of growth hormone in the regulation of aging; genetic variation in receptivity to the calorie restriction longevity effect; and inducing a longevity effect through consumption of certain foods.

Participants:

Holly Brown-Borg, PhD, University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences
Donald Ingram, PhD, Pennington Biomedical Research Center
James Nelson, PhD, University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio
Richard Miller, MD, PhD, University of Michigan Medical School

Online Press Kit:
A special online press kit for this briefing will be posted at www.geron.org/ampress. It will include full-length participant biographies with contact information; fact sheets about the host organizations; and other supporting documents.
