Elaine M. Brody Award

The Elaine M. Brody Award is conferred by the Social Research, Policy, and Practice Section to an undergraduate or a graduate student enrolled in a master’s level program (at the time the abstract is submitted) in recognition of excellence in research as reflected in an outstanding paper. The award, which carries a prize of $300, was established in 2009 and honors Elaine M. Brody a former SRPP section chair and a former GSA president. Her pioneering research in social gerontology focused on family caregiving and enhancing the well-being of older people.

Carroll L. Estes Award

The Carroll L. Estes Award is conferred by the Social Research, Policy, and Practice Section to a graduate student enrolled in a doctoral level program (at the time the abstract is submitted)  in recognition of excellence in research as reflected in an outstanding paper. The award, which carries a prize of $500, was established in 2009 and honors Carroll L. Estes, a distinguished gerontological researcher, a tireless advocate for older persons, a former SRPP section chair, and a former GSA president.

Outstanding Student Poster Award

The Social Research, Policy, and Practice Outstanding Student Poster Award recognizes a current SRPP student member, graduate or undergraduate, for excellence in research as reflected in an outstanding research poster presentation.

Three student finalists will be selected and required to attend the Annual Scientific Meeting (including the SRPP Business Luncheon Meeting).  The finalists must make an oral presentation about their posters to the Committee judges prior to the SRPP Section Business Luncheon Meeting, and also present their poster to the wider audience of meeting attendees.  The award will be presented to the author of the winning poster at the SRPP Section Business Luncheon Meeting during GSA's Annual Scientific Meeting.

The award carries a $300 cash prize in hopes of encouraging outstanding research.

Requirements

Students with accepted poster abstracts will receive an e-mail blast regarding the various student awards available, and the award links for additional information.  Applicants are required to send two copies of a power point of the poster (one blind, one not) to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , along with the required faculty mentor statement by the final submission deadline, which is the last Monday in September.
