The “2nd Intensive Course on Ageing” is scheduled on June 21-22, 2012 at the Institut de l'Envelliment of the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Spain, under the auspices of the IAGG (International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics). The 2012 session will welcome internationally recognized specialists who will share their knowledge on main aspects of gerontology and cancer in senior adults.

This Course is addressed to an audience of students, professionals, researchers and any other actor concerned by Aging issues. Oral communications will be presented within the framework of sessions (30 minutes) & workshops (60 minutes).

Day 1 GERONTOLOGY Sessions
• New findings from clinical research in nursing homes
• Clinical trials in frail older adults
• A WHO Public Health perspective to implement palliative care for old persons with advanced chronic diseases & conditions: the experience from Catalonia 1989-2012
• Behavior disorders in dementia
• How to publish in geriatric medicine
• Cognitive decline, dementia and gait disorders
• Use of imaging & biomarkers in the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease

Day 1 GERONTOLOGY Workshops
• New skills for a geriatrician in the 21st century - a need to develop or risk the future of geriatrics
• Clinical case in psychogeriatrics
• Frailty in older adults
• Dementia & nutrition

Day 2 CANCER Sessions
• mTOR inhibition for aging and cancer prevention
• Breast cancer in older subjects
• Cancer prevention in the elderly
• Who should be treated? Life expectancy and treatment tolerance
• Haematologic complications of cancer treatment for elderly patients
• Prostate cancer

Day 2 CANCER Workshops
• Case presentations
• Clinical manifestations of cancer in the elderly
• Systemic treatment of cancer in the elderly
• Nutrition, cancer and frailty

Lodovico BALDUCCI (United States) - Professor of Medicine and Oncology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, and Chief of the division of Geriatric Oncology, Senior Adult Oncology program, Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa.
Matteo CESARI (France) - Medical Physician and Geriatrician at the Institute of Aging, University of Toulouse.
Jaime FITTEN (United States) - Professor of Psychiatry Biobehavioral Sciences and member of the Brain Research Institute, University of California, Los Angeles.
Antoni SALVA (Spain) - Director of the Institut de l’Envelliment, Universitat Autonoma, Barcelona.
Alan SINCLAIR (United Kingdom) - Professor of Medicine, Director of the Institute of Diabetes for Older People (IDOP), University of Bedfordshire.
Bruno VELLAS (France) - Professor of Medicine, Chief Department Internal Medicine & Geriatrics, Chief Alzheimer’s Disease Clinical Research Centre, Toulouse University Hospital.
