Campus Ambassadors Program Guide
BECOMING A CAMPUS AMBASSADOR
Introduction
The goal of the GSA/ESPO Campus Ambassadors program is to establish strong professional and social networks among students from the many of disciplines involved with gerontology.
Designing a program for each university or college is the responsibility of Campus Ambassadors, with guidance from their Faculty Advisors. Campus Ambassadors may decide to develop a local program in one of the following ways:
- Create or work with an existing student gerontology organization
- Work with an existing local branch of Sigma Phi Omega (SPO)
- Recruit a co-Ambassador
If you are are current GSA/ESPO student member and already a member of a campus gerontology student organization or a local branch of SPO, you may also become a Campus Ambassador.
Please use the following information to assist in developing an active GSA/ESPO Campus Ambassadors program. All ideas contained in this document are freely available to replicate for an individual campus. Keep in mind that these are suggestions to guide you in your efforts and you are encouraged to be creative and to implement a program that works for you, your fellow students and your college or university.
Application
The Campus Ambassadors program fosters interaction among students across campuses and establishes a network of individuals who will serve as:
- Initiators of gerontological programs
- Organizers of activities and networks
- Recruiters for GSA and ESPO
Campus Ambassadors must be GSA/ESPO student members in good standing, and are required to make a one-year commitment to serve in this capacity. Applications may be accessed through the GSA website, www.geron.org, or by phone at 202-842-1275.
Faculty Advisors
Faculty Advisors serve as a resource for Campus Ambassadors and facilitate promotion of a Campus Ambassadors program. Campus Ambassadors are responsible for recruiting Faculty Advisors. While it is preferred that Faculty Advisors are active GSA members, this is not a requirement. However, Faculty Advisors are required to make a one-year commitment to serve in this capacity, and should also be able to provide some resources, such as a meeting space.
