Intended Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the needs of a diverse group of professionals who are engaged in improving the lives of our older citizens. These include the following:
- Biomedical and behavioral/social science researchers
- Clinicians providing care to elderly patients including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, clinical psychologists, and licensed clinical social workers
- Policy makers, and advocates for the elderly
Statement of Need
Gerontology is an interdisciplinary field encompassing the biomedical and behavioral/social sciences. Researchers, clinicians, and policy makers must integrate the findings from various lines of inquiry as they collaborate to solve problems through research, and inform policy, develop services, revise care plans, and advocate for the needs of the elderly.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this initiative, participants will do the following:
- Identify research findings that have implications for their practice in Gerontology
- Integrate research from multiple disciplines to improve services for elderly patients
- Collaborate with colleagues from other disciplines to shape policy, care plans, and advocacy efforts based on the best available evidence
- Incorporate new evidence into their professional practice
Nursing Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this initiative, participants will do the following:
- Provide appropriate care and counsel for patients and their families

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower and The Gerontological Society of America. The Annenberg Center is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
