The Gerontology Program and Gamma Psi, the local chapter of Sigma Phi Omega, the gerontology national honor society, are hosting a panel presentation about careers in aging. The event will be held on Monday, April 7 at 6:00 p.m. in Fretwell 419. The presenters are four alumnae of the MA program in Gerontology who will talk about their educational decision-making, career paths and current positions.

Florida Gulf Coast University

San Francisco State University
San Francisco State University (SFSU), Gerontology Program in conjunction with the student chapters of the American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA) and Gerontological Society of America (GSA), will sponsor a Spring Forum & AIT Reception on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 from 6:00-9:00pm in the Blakeslee Room at SFSU. The Spring Forum will feature innovative leaders in the field of long-term care administration who will share information on issues in maintaining "vital connections" between elders and their support networks. Following the Spring Forum, we will host an AIT (Administrator-In-Training) Reception to honor our AIT interns who have completed their 480 hour AIT internships and our AIT preceptors who have volunteered their expertise and time to successfully mentor and supervise the AITs.

During Spring Fever, the Gerontology Program has reserved a table at the coliseum to showcase the program as well as the various careers available to in aging. The Institute of Gerontology also sponsors the Senior Olympic Games for the North East Region of Louisiana. We also have a dedicated bulletin board in the student building, where we plan to organize a display on careers in aging as well as emphasizing the M.A. degree in gerontology.

California State University, Northridge is planning a week of activities including: alumni graduates speaking on their careers in aging, a campus wide screening of surfing for life followed by a discussion. This award winning movie focuses on healthy aging by highlighting the lives of surfers in their 70s, 80, and 90's. CSU Northridge is also planning a campus booth were they will sell gerontology t-shirts with a provocative quote and provide information on careers in aging, our gerontology program, and Sigma Phi Omega. Lastly, Gerontology students will help facilitate a healthy aging fair for seniors.

Purdue University
Purdue is having a COA panel discussion and are tailoring this year's panel to meet the diverse needs of the students and invite speakers to discuss (1) recent advancements in aging research, (2) hands-on work with older adults, specifically career opportunities in adult day care centers and retirement/assisted living centers, and (3) special interest groups lobbying for the interests of older adults. At the end of the session, the audience will be informed of the Careers in Aging website, the Purdue Gerontology Program (including the Gerontology Student Organization), AGHE, and GSA.

In conjunction with Careers in Aging Week 2003, the Gerontology Program at St. Cloud State University will be hosting it's annual Gerontology Open House on April 9, 2003 from 3 to 5 pm in Stewart Hall 330. The open house will showcase information on educational and career options in aging and offer opportunities for students, faculty and community members to socialize and network. The open house will be followed at 5 pm by a panel presentation "Careers in Aging". The panel presentation (co-sponsored by the SCSU Gerontology Program, The Department of Community Studies, and the Beta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Phi Omega) will feature presentations from a wide range of local community professionals in the field of aging.

The Careers in Aging week at Ithaca College will be kicked off at the State Society on Aging of New York Student Conference, to be held at the College on Friday April 4. The daylong conference will feature speakers from a variety of jobs in the field of aging who will share stories about their careers and the educational and experiential paths to those careers. Events during the following week will include brief presentations in aging-related classes using the AGHE Old Friends, New Faces videotape, a display in the Center for Health Sciences main display case, and ads in the student newspaper about careers in aging and IC gerontology program.

Colleges of Worcester Consortium, Inc
"The Consortium Gerontology Studies Program is an undergraduate certificate program of Assumption College, Clark University, College of the Holy Cross, UMass Medical School and Worcester State College. Throughout the year we sponsor a "Careers in Aging" series of panel presentations open to students from all campuses. This year we have held three career panels - two during the fall semester at Holy Cross College and Assumption College and one during the spring semester at Clark University.

Washington University at the Center for Aging.
We currently have approx. 80 students working on a variety of projects. The students represent the disciplines of: psychology, occupational therapy, anthropology, art (graphic design), and social work. During Careers in Aging Week, we would like to recognize them with small tokens of appreciation. We will hang GSA posters at the various schools and promote careers in aging.
