Standing Primary Committees: are those necessary to the day to day operations of the society. They include:

Standing Secondary Committees: are those that further the goals of the Society but are not involved with the day to day operations. They include:

Awards/Fellowship Committee
Humanities and the Arts Committee
Membership Committee
Nominating Committee
President's Cabinet

Society Task Forces: are created to focus on substantive issues or initiatives that cut across sections and committees. They include:

Task Force on Publications
Task Force on Interest Groups
Task Force on Organizational Technology and Computers
Task Force on Minority Issues in Gerontology
Task Force on Women
Task Force on Research
