This is your invitation to present at the
59th ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING THE GERONTOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA “Education and The Gerontological Imagination” First Annual Research Education and Practice Committee Hot Poster Session Abstract deadline: October 2, 2006 The Research Education and Practice “Hot” Posters session is intended to give exposure to the latest research on aging and produce a means to share with colleagues the latest findings from age related research. This session is sponsored by the Research Education and Practice Committee (REP). The REP is the only joint AGHE/GSA committee. Abstracts for REP hot posters should take the latest and most current research topics and focus on their implications for research, education, and practice. “Hot” Posters will be displayed at the GSA Annual Meeting at a special poster session time on Friday, November 17, 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM; and will be advertised in the GSA Program Addendum. Because of the late abstract deadline (to ensure the latest research), hot poster abstracts cannot be included in the Annual Meeting Program Schedule or be published in the Annual Meeting Program Abstracts, but they will be peer-reviewed. The abstracts submitted for this poster session should address the research, education, and practice implications in the area of submission. Abstract titles should not exceed 125 characters. The body of the abstract text should not exceed 250 words and will be judged by: Originality of ideas and methods Specificity of methods and findings Clarity of theoretical and/or applied implications Quality of writing Use of proper abstract format II. GENERAL RULES FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS Each abstract is reviewed independently by at least three members of the REP committee for: (a) CONTENT and MERIT, and (b) proper Abstract FORMAT.
Please remember that no-shows can ruin a scientific meeting. Your submission commits you to be present and to participate as proposed if your submission is accepted. 1. WHO MAY APPLY Participation as first author in a poster session is limited to two applications per person. The first author is considered the presenter. 2. HOW TO APPLY To apply, all proposals must be submitted using the appropriate instructions. Instructions for typing abstracts and examples of formats can be found on the following pages. Since criteria for each presentation form vary, please read all the instructions carefully before completing the abstract form. 3. HANDLING FEE Each submission must include a $15 handling fee by check, credit card or money order payable to The Gerontological Society of America. Submissions without the handling fee will not be considered. GSA student members and student non-members are exempt from paying the fee. A student is defined as an individual who “is registered full time for graduate, undergraduate or professional studies at an accredited educational institution or who is completing his/her internship or residency requirements.” 4. CRITERIA FOR SUBMISSIONS Abstracts should be factual and report on completed research. General criteria for evaluation of abstracts include originality of ideas and methods, concise presentation of methods and findings, clarity of theoretical and/or applied implications, and quality of writing. A list of topics to be covered or a statement that “results will be discussed” is not sufficient. Materials previously published or presented at another national conference are NOT acceptable.
Note: The REP would like to give credit to the GSA Biological Science’s section for first introducing the “Hot” topics poster idea.
5. ATTENDANCE AND REGISTRATION All persons attending the Annual Scientific Meeting are required to register and pay the registration fee. This includes authors, co-authors, poster presenters, chairpersons and all those connected with meeting presentations. No person is authorized to waive registration fees for presenters.
