The Gerontological Society of America Revised January 2003 Fair Use Up to 100 words from GSA copyrighted material may be quoted in any publication without prior permission. If several passages are used from a single article, the total number of words reprinted must not exceed 100. It is the responsibility of authors to transcribe accurately, to credit the source properly, and to adhere to the intended meaning of the original author(s). Authors have unlimited rights to reproduce their own material in print, whether in multiple copies or for use in readers or other volumes for which the author serves as an editor or author. (See Electronic Use below and Journal Policy for Manuscripts Posted on the Internet Prior to Publication for restrictions on authors' online use of materials.) Copyright and Credits In all cases, the GSA retains its copyright and grants permission for only one edition or class. All reprints and photocopies must clearly indicate the journal title, volume number, page numbers, and date of publication, in addition to the following statement: "Copyright (c) The Gerontological Society of America. Reproduced by permission of the publisher." Photocopies Photocopies of material in GSA journals may be made for classroom use, reserve library use, scholarly use, and general distribution at a fee of 3 cents per page per copy. The Gerontological Society of America has registered its journals with the Academic Permissions Service of the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC). Reprinting Permission to reprint GSA copyrighted material, such as in an edited volume, must be requested in writing in advance from the GSA Permissions Editor. This fee applies to all profit-making publishers, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. Electronic Use The general rules for electronic use of GSA copyrighted materials are as indicated below. Online use: Permission to reproduce GSA journal articles for use online will be granted only for academic (class or reserve library) use. Articles must be password protected and available only to the instructors and students enrolled in the class for which permission for use is granted. The article(s) must be removed from the site as soon as the class ends and deleted from electronic storage. Any copies printed from online sources must clearly display the credit line as indicated under Copyrights and Credits, as well as a statement that the article is for use by students and instructors in the course and may not be distributed beyond them. The fee for placing an article online for academic use is 3 cents per page per student enrolled in the class for which permission is requested. The GSA has registered its journals with the Electronic Course Content Service of the Copyright Clearance Center. The fee for reproducing GSA copyrighted material on CD-ROM is $50 per page or part thereof, or per figure, table, or chart.
