About this Webinar
Senate appropriators on both sides of the aisle have come to an agreement on a short-term government funding bill — a continuing resolution that includes a provision to delay implementation of a proposed rule from the White House Office of Management and Budget that would place political appointees in charge of approving federal grants.
Recent congressional activity surrounding government funding legislation has brought renewed attention to proposed Office of Management and Budget (OMB) regulations that would fundamentally change the administration of federal grants. GSA has expressed significant concerns regarding these proposed changes and their potential impact on aging research, research training, scientific collaboration, innovation, and the broader research ecosystem.
Join GSA President Tamara Baker, CEO James Appleby, and Vice President of Policy & Professional Affairs Patricia M. D'Antonio for a member town hall focused on what is at stake for aging research and education, the current policy landscape, and how GSA members can serve as Scientist-Citizens in their communities. Participants will learn about GSA’s response submitted to the OMB draft regulations, recent congressional developments, available resources, and ways to communicate the value of research and evidence-based innovation to policymakers, community leaders, colleagues, friends, and neighbors during the August congressional recess.
Learning Objectives
Following this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the proposed OMB changes to federal grants and why they matter to the aging field.
- Explain GSA's comments regarding the potential effects of the proposed regulations on scientific independence, peer review, research infrastructure, and workforce development.
- Assess the potential implications of these policies for aging research, education, innovation, and efforts to improve health and well-being for all of us as we age.
- Identify resources and tools that can help members stay informed and communicate effectively about the importance of a strong and sustainable research ecosystem.
- Apply Scientist-Citizen approaches to sharing evidence-based perspectives with policymakers, community leaders, colleagues, friends, neighbors, and other community members.
