About this Workshop
Research indicates that it takes 17 years for 14% of research to impact patient care. The National Academy of Medicine referred to this gap between research and practice as a “chasm” that has negative implications for patient health and quality of life. Dissemination and implementation (D&I) research seeks to bridge this gap by identifying strategies to integrate effective, evidence-based interventions into real-world clinical settings and evaluating their impact and sustainability. D&I research offers unique frameworks, implementation strategies, study designs, and outcomes essential to advancing equitable access to high-quality care. However, many clinicians and researchers lack formal training in D&I science methods. This workshop will provide an accessible introduction to D&I science and will apply these concepts to aging research. Interactive components such as small group discussions, moderated Q&A, and live polls will be used to facilitate participant interaction. In addition, prior to the workshop, participants will be encouraged to identify a current or future project from their work to which they can apply the principles discussed. Small-group discussions in which participants apply D&I principles to their projects will promote participants' learning and support engagement in D&I research following the workshop.
