GSA offers an institutional membership through the Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education (see institutional membership instructions below). For accredited academic institutions with gerontology/geriatric educators and/or course offerings in aging, but without a formal gerontology or geriatrics program. A formal program is defined as: (a) one offering a degree, certificate, concentration, specialization, emphasis, or minor in gerontology; or (b) one identified as a research and/or clinical training center in gerontology/geriatrics.

  • Build long-lasting connections at special AGHE events at the GSA Annual Scientific Meeting.

Improve Your Programs

  • The AGHE Standards and Guidelines document includes gerontology and geriatrics curriculum and program parameters for all levels of degree granting programs ( associate, bachelors, masters and doctoral) in gerontology and health professions education as well as undergraduate and graduate certificates and minors.
  • The AGHE Program of Merit (POM) recognition is available to academic gerontology programs and all health professions programs that integrate geriatrics/gerontology competencies within the curriculum that meet AGHE Standards and Guidelines and other measures of program quality.
  • Enhanced listing in the Online Directory of Educational Programs in Gerontology and Geriatrics that assists in promoting your institution’s visibility and enrollment.
  • Ensure your students are prepared for interactions with older adults by adding Ageism First Aid as an instructional component in your program.

  • Academy Representatives have access to all GSA member benefits.
  • Academy Representatives may select a separate GSA primary section and secondary section.

Voting Privileges 

  • All Academy Representatives are considered members of GSA.
  • Academy Representatives automatically have voting privileges in AGHE as well as their indicated GSA primary section.
