Annual Scientific Meeting Sustainability

GSA and our meeting vendors have implemented several practices to do our part to make the GSA 2019 Annual Scientific Meeting more sustainable. We have created a list of these practices along with a variety of tips for meeting attendees who are looking for ways to lower their footprint.

Meeting Attendees

  • Bring a reusable water bottle (refill at water stations in the meeting facilities)
  • Consider taking a shared ride or public transportation from the airport
    • SuperShuttle: Attendees can receive 10% off Shared-ride or ExecuCar airport service and transportation around town by using the code CJ5EA.
    • METRO: The Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority, commonly referred to as Capital Metro (or colloquially Cap Metro), is a public transportation provider located in Austin, Texas. The trip planner is a great tool or determining the best route around town!
  • Austin is a walkable city but you can also get around by bike, bus and more.
    • Capital Metro Bus Line
    • Capital MetroRail
    • Pedicabs
    • Bike Rentals
  • Recycle your name badge by returning it back to the registration desk at the end of the meeting.

GSA Reduces Print Materials

  • Attendees had the option to forgo receiving a hard copy of the meeting program. Over 50% of meeting attendees took advantage of this option and received a $10 discount on their meeting registration.
  • Use of electronic signage within the conference venues allows a decrease in foam core signs created.
