Pre-Conference Workshop Application

GSA provides individuals the ability to organize a workshop as part of the Annual Scientific Meeting. These sessions provide attendees an alternative intensive educational experience. The session must be interactive with a "hands-on" learning component. Attendees should leave the workshop with tangible ways to change behavior and a new set of skills. A limited number of slots are available.

Workshop Application 

Applications for Workshops will be accepted from February 10 to March 11, 2021.

Please review the following workshop application requirements before you start your application as there is no way to save your progress once you begin.

Workshop Title: Submit the title of your workshop exactly as you would like it to appear in all marketing and print materials for the GSA Annual Scientific Meeting (100 characters maximum).

Presenters: Each workshop may have a Chair and up to 15 additional presenters. The application will require first name, last name and affiliation.

Rationale for Session: Explain why there is a need for this workshop and clearly define its goals.

Intended Audience: Describe the populations of the GSA Annual Scientific Meeting attendees that your proposed workshop will serve. More detail will enable us to ensure marketing efforts target the correct audience. Workshops must have approximately 30 registrants.

Workshop Format: Outline the overall structure of the event. Will attendees be working on projects in small groups? Will a panel be discussing topics? Etc.

Course Objectives: List productive outcomes of participating in your workshop. What are some direct takeaways attendees will be able to bring back to their organizations? What skills will they develop though partaking in your workshop?

Workshop Description for Marketing: Provide a summary of the workshop that will encourage individuals to register for the session (150 words maximum). GSA will promote the workshop through a variety of mechanisms.

Workshop Acceptance and Timeline

Applications are due March 11, 2021. All applications will be reviewed by the Program, Publication, and Products Committee for possible inclusion in the GSA 2021 Annual Scientific Meeting.

Notifications of acceptance will be distributed in early June, 2021.

Workshops will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. Some workshops may be scheduled during the meeting. We recommend that organizers be willing to accept alternative date/time.


Audio/Visual and Food & Beverage Information

GSA will provide the following for all Workshops:

Audio/Visual Equipment:
1. LCD Projector and Screen
2. Podium and Microphone
3. PC Laptop
Note: Workshop rooms will not have internet or Wi-Fi capabilities, unless you make special arrangements to order this separately. *

Food & Beverage:
1. Half Day: morning or afternoon refreshments
2. Full Day: morning and afternoon refreshments

*Workshop organizers are responsible for requesting and financing any additional Audio/Visual or Food & Beverage needs, internet access in room, copies of all handout materials, and any other expenses associated with the workshop.


Workshop Organizer and Presenters

Each accepted Pre-Conference Workshop is entitled to two (2) full complimentary GSA meeting registrations
(i.e., events included in the standard registration fee). Additional events must be purchased separately. These complimentary registrations are nontransferable and changes to these registrations cannot be made after September 3, 2021.

It is the responsibility of the Workshop Organizer to distribute the registration codes and instructions provided by GSA staff to the presenters taking advantage of the complimentary registration.

Presenters are required to register for the GSA meeting if they plan to attend any event or session other than the workshop itself. Workshop presenters are not required to register for the workshop in which they are presenting.

The Workshop Organizer is responsible for compiling the presentations and uploading them to the Presentation Management System so they are available onsite in the workshop room.
