Membership Levels & Benefits

Regular Membership ($195/year) includes:

  • Online subscriptions to the following preeminent scholarly publications: The Gerontologist, The Journals of Gerontology, Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences, The Journals of Gerontology, Series B: Psychological Sciences and Social Sciences, Innovation in Aging, and Public Policy & Aging Report. (Membership also includes print subscriptions to two of these four publications - receive three for an additional $50/yr. or all four for $100/yr.)

  • Special Rates on article processing charges ($500 savings) for open access papers in GSA journals. GSA member journal authors have the option to publish their paper under the Oxford Open Initiative; whereby, for a charge, their paper will be made freely available online immediately upon publication. After your manuscript is accepted, the corresponding author will be required to accept a mandatory license to publish agreement. As part of the licensing process you will be asked to indicate whether or not you wish to pay for open access. GSA members receive a special rate on these charges.

Student Membership ($95/year) includes:

  • All benefits of regular membership but at a reduced rate (for a maximum of seven years), plus participation in our Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization (ESPO), which has its own officers and committees, holds special activities on campuses around the country, and offers significantly reduced registration rates for the Annual Scientific Meeting. Available only to those enrolled full time in accredited institutions of higher education, those completing internship or residency requirements, and post-doctoral researchers and fellows.

Transitional Student Membership ($120/year) includes:

  • All benefits of regular membership but at a reduced rate (for a maximum of two years), plus continued participation in our Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization (ESPO). Intended for those transitioning to permanent career posts, this type is only available to current GSA ESPO student members.

Undergraduate Student Membership ($32/year) includes:

  • All benefits of the student membership listed above, including participation in our Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization (ESPO), except for printed copies of the journals. (These members will have online access only.) Available to undergraduates enrolled full time in accredited institutions of higher education.

Spouse Membership ($60/year) includes:

  • All benefits of regular membership, except for journals. Eligible to spouses of those in the regular membership category.

Emeritus Membership* ($60/year) includes:

  • Eligible only to those who have been a member or fellow for 20 or more consecutive or non-consecutive years and are no longer compensated for professional work. All benefits of a regular membership listed above, except for printed copies of the journals. (These members will have online access only.) Emeritus members can receive print journals at a special rate. Please contact GSA directly to inquire about becoming an emeritus member.
    *Emeritus members who joined GSA prior to January 1, 2015, will be grandfathered in at their original dues rate.

Retired Membership ($90/year) includes:

  • Eligible to those who have not been a member of GSA for 20 or more years but are no longer being compensated for professional work. All benefits of a regular membership listed above, except for printed copies of the journals. (These members will have online access only.) Retired members can receive print journals at a special rate.
