Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization Interdisciplinary Paper Award
Final Submission Deadline
Last Monday in September.
Requirements
- Applicants must be a student member of GSA.
- Applicants must submit an abstract for the Annual Scientific Meeting.
- The abstract must be accepted for the conference.
- The student must present at the Annual Scientific Meeting.
- Once accepted, the applicant must submit an article-length manuscript to compete for the award.
- The manuscript must identify the institution with which the student is affiliated.
- If the manuscript was co-authored, the submission must include a statement from any additional authors verifying that the work primarily the applicant’s work.

- The student must present at the Annual Scientific Meeting.
- Once accepted, the applicant must submit a PDF or PowerPoint version of their poster.
- If the poster was co-authored, the submission must include a statement from any additional authors verifying that the work primarily the applicant’s work.
Douglas Holmes Award for Quality of Life/Quality of Care Paper Award
The Douglas Holmes Award, sponsored by the RESQCARE Interest Group, honors Dr. Douglas Holmes, a noted psychologist who dedicated his life’s work to improving social services for the older adults. In collaboration with RESQCARE Interest Group, GSA is hosting a best paper competition in the area of research with potential to improve quality of life and/or quality of care in long-term care. The award carries a $500 cash prize.
The Douglas Holmes Award encourages innovative and promising research to improve long-term care to older adults in any setting (i.e., nursing home, hospice, assisted living, adult day, or home and community based care). The award will be presented to the author(s) of the winning paper at at GSA’s Annual Scientific Meeting at the RESQCARE Interest Group Meeting.

Requirements
- Applicants must be a current ESPO member of GSA
- Eligibility is limited to those who are no more than 5 years post doctorate by the final submission deadline
- Applicants must submit an abstract for the GSA's Annual Scientific Meeting.
- The abstract must be accepted for the conference
- The student must present at GSA's Annual Scientific Meeting
- Once accepted, applicants must submit a paper from the accepted abstract by the September deadline noted above
- The winning paper will be selected by a combined ESPO and RESQCARE review panel
- The winner(s) will be expected to give a short synopsis of their paper at the RESQCARE Interest Group Meeting at the GSA Annual Scientific Meeting
- The paper must…
- be original and not yet published or copyrighted by a journal, book, or other form of publication
- be innovative, and push the envelope of current conceptualization
- be approximately 20 pages in length using APA style guidelines
- be of sufficient quality to be considered for publication in book chapter or peer-reviewed journal
- If the manuscript was co-authored, the submission must include a statement from all additional authors verifying that the work was primarily the applicant's
Note: If the same paper is submitted and qualifies for more than one GSA award, only the Douglas Holmes Award will be awarded.

Task Force for Minority Issues in Gerontology Student Poster Award
The Task Force for Minority Issues in Gerontology offers a Poster Award to recognize minority ESPO members of GSA for innovative and demonstrated research focusing on issues surrounding diverse racial and ethnic population groups (Blacks/African Americans, Hispanic/Latinos, Native Americans/Pacific Islanders, Asians).
Final Submission Deadline
Last Monday in September.
Requirements
- Applicants must be a student/ESPO member of GSA and cannot have their doctoral degree at the time of abstract submission.
- Applicants must submit an abstract for the Annual Scientific Meeting.
- The abstract must be accepted for the conference.
- Abstract must focus on research for one of the following race or ethnic groups: Blacks/African Americans, Hispanic/Latinos, Native Americans/Pacific Islanders, Asian.
- The student/ESPO member must be a first author.
- The student must present at the Annual Scientific Meeting.
- Once accepted, the applicant must submit a PowerPoint or PDF version of their poster (2 copies - one blinded).
- If the poster was co-authored, the submission must include a statement from any additional authors, verifying that the work is primarily the applicant’s work.
