This GSA annual award recognizes research and creative excellence in the gerontological humanities that broadly includes, but is not limited to literature, philosophy, history, spirituality, ethics, cinema, media, poetry and the arts in relation to aging studies. The award honors the memory and vision of the late W. Andrew Achenbaum, whose leadership, productivity and commitment to advancing interdisciplinary and humanistic research in gerontology and the GSA left a significant legacy, which this award aims to promote and advance.
Eligibility:
- Nominees for the award and award winners must be GSA members at the time of nomination and at the time of award acceptance.
- The award is open to nominations of candidates from any stage of their career.
Requirements:
- Single letter of nomination signed by at least three (3) supporters that includes a 2-4 page narrative description of the specific contribution(s) of the nominee to innovative research in the gerontological humanities.
- Attached supportive nominee materials produced anytime within the last 5 years. These can include scholarly publications, multimedia productions, creative works, or evidence of policy or education impacts or community engagement activities. Hyperlinks and/or digital access to these materials should be provided where available.
- A current Curriculum Vitae, either in standard or narrative modes.
Nature of the Award
The recipient receives a framed award plaque and recognition at the GSA Annual Scientific Meeting.
