GSA Engages in Americans for Medical Research Campaign

James Appleby - CEO Blog

I am excited to announce that GSA and several other scientific societies are engaged in a new campaign, Americans for Medical Research, led by Research!America. Our goal is to educate policymakers and the public about the vital role played by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in funding scientific research.

The non-partisan campaign has completed extensive public opinion research to inform the development of compelling ads, messages and talking points.

The Americans for Medical Research campaign includes ads that will run inside the Washington, DC, Beltway. In addition, the campaign is seeking to share non-partisan stories in local press, radio, TV, and online.

For maximum impact, the campaign needs the voice of individual GSA-member researchers. The work you do illustrates why federal funding for medical and health research is crucial. Together, we can amplify our messages through the media and on Capitol Hill.

Americans for Medical Research will be offering opportunities for outreach to Congress and engagement with the public. I invite you to sign up for updates on the campaign website. You’ll receive notices about things like:

  • Calls to action for sending op-eds or letters to the editor of your local papers or letters to your member of Congress. The campaign will provide samples and resources like an NIH Fast Facts sheet.
  • Information on virtual advocacy training.

Our collective voice has power when we unite to highlight the importance of aging research, and our continued advocacy efforts are making a difference. For those who do not wish to remain silent, GSA is with you on this journey and stands ready to equip you with the resources you need to be successful.
