ESPO Travel Stipends

The travel stipends below are available for ESPO members only. To view additional funding opportunities (available to member and non-member emerging scholars and students), click here.

Carol A. Schutz Student Travel Stipend

Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization (ESPO) student members are eligible for a chance to win a Carol A. Schutz Student Travel Stipend in the amount of $400. These stipends are given to help defray the cost of attending IAGG World Congress. The recipients of the Carol A. Schutz Student Travel Stipends are chosen by lottery. In order to be eligible, one must fulfill all of the requirements and instructions for submission outlined below.

February 20-April 5, 2017

Requirements

  • Pre-qualifications

    1. Must be a current student member of ESPO and have an updated GSA Connect Profile.

    2. Participate in the Careers in Aging Week thread in the ESPO Community on GSA Connect by April 5, 2017 at 5:00pm ET for collection and verification with their application. Applicants must reply to this thread at least once by April 1 (must log into the GSA Connect to access the thread). Response examples may include:

    • Why they chose a career in aging, or are working towards a career in aging
    • How their university/organization is participating in CIAW
    • A time they felt inspired by careers in aging
    • Advice for obtaining a career in aging
    • An example of interdisciplinary collaboration they have done with their field.

    At IAGG
    3. Must be able to attend one of the following lectures to receive the stipend (held on different days and times):

    • GSA Donald P. Kent and Robert W. Kleemeier Lecture
    • GSA Margaret M. and Paul B. Baltes Award in Behavioral and Social Gerontology Lecture
    • GSA M. Powell Lawton Lecture
    • GSA Maxwell A. Pollack Award for Productive Aging Lecture
    • GSA Excellence in Rehabilitation of Aging Persons Award and Joseph T. Freeman Lecture

Behavioral and Social Sciences Travel Stipends

ESPO members within the Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS) Section are eligible for a chance to win a BSS Travel Stipend in the amount of $400 for 2017 IAGG World Congress, July 23-27. These stipends are given to help defray the cost of attending World Congress. The recipients of the BSS Travel Awards are chosen by lottery. In order to be eligible, one must fulfill all of the requirements and instructions for submission outlined below.

Open Submission Period
February 20-April 5, 2017  

Requirements

  • Must be a current ESPO member of the BSS Section.
  • Must have an accepted paper, poster, or symposium paper for IAGG.
  • Must be able to attend one of the following lectures to receive the stipend (held on different days and times):
    • GSA Donald P. Kent and Robert W. Kleemeier Lecture
    • GSA Margaret M. and Paul B. Baltes Award in Behavioral and Social Gerontology Lecture
    • GSA M. Powell Lawton Lecture
    • GSA Maxwell A. Pollack Award for Productive Aging Lecture
    • GSA Excellence in Rehabilitation of Aging Persons Award and Joseph T. Freeman Lecture

Health Sciences Travel Stipends

ESPO members within the Health Sciences (HS) Section are eligible for a chance to win a HS Travel Stipend in the amount of $200. These awards are given to help defray the cost of attending GSA's 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston, MA. The recipients of the HS Travel Awards are chosen by lottery. In order to be eligible, one must fulfill all of the requirements and instructions for submission outlined below.

Open Submission Period
July 15, 2018 - September 1, 2018 

Requirements

  • Must be a current ESPO member of the HS Section.
  • Must be the first author of an accepted paper, poster, or symposium paper. 
  • Must be able to attend the HS Section Luncheon Business Meeting to receive the stipend.

Self Nomination Process
The nomination link will be available June 1, 2018 to apply for a chance to win a $200 HS Travel Stipend.  

Social Research, Policy, and Practice Travel Stipends

ESPO members within the Social Research, Policy, and Practice (SRPP) Section are eligible for a chance to win an SRPP Travel Stipend in the amount of $400 for 2017 IAGG World Congress, July 23-27. These stipends are given to help defray the cost of attending World Congress. The recipients of the SRPP Travel Stipends are chosen by lottery. In order to be eligible, one must fulfill all of the requirements and instructions for submission below.

February 20-April 5, 2017

  • Must be a current ESPO member of the SRPP Section.
  • Must be able to attend one of the following lectures to receive the stipend (held on different days and times):
