Tamara Baker, PhD, FGSA, of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been installed as the new president of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA), the nation’s largest interdisciplinary organization focused on aging. She was elected by GSA’s membership, which consists of 6,000 researchers, educators, practitioners, and other professionals.

New research published in The Journals of Gerontology, Series B: Psychological Sciences and Social Sciences has discovered a direct causal effect between social isolation and a faster decline in later-life cognitive function.

Implementing Anti-Amyloid Therapies, Conversations with Clinical Leaders is a new webinar series — developed by the Gerontological Society of America in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association — that provides guidance to primary care providers and others for implementing recently approved therapies to delay the progression of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). 

The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) has selected new editors to lead three of its peer-reviewed journal titles, effective January 1. They are Jason D. (Jace) Flatt, PhD, MPH, as the editor-in-chief of the Social Sciences section of The Journals of Gerontology, Series B: Psychological Sciences and Social Sciences; Karen Kopera-Frye, PhD, FAGHE, FGSA, as the editor-in-chief of Gerontology & Geriatrics Education; and Joyce Siette, B Psych (Hons), PhD, as the editor-in-chief of the Medical Sciences section of The Journals of Gerontology, Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences.

The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) has received a three-year grant award from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) of the National Institutes of Health to establish the Geroscience Education and Training 2 (GET2) Network.
