GSA Providing Members Access to a Certificate Course on Engaging with Family Caregivers
GSA’s is in collaboration with Plans4Care, Inc., to offer an online course called The Confident Caregiver. This brief, self-paced training gives clinicians, care managers, and health and human services professionals evidence-based tools to better engage family caregivers of people with complex conditions. Developed by GSA members Laura N. Gitlin, PhD, FGSA, FAAN, and Catherine V. Piersol, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, FNAP, the course translates decades of research into practical resources and a person-centered approach to care.
The course consists of six concise online modules that provide evidence-based frameworks, practical tools, a caregiver workbook, and a person-centered approach to care delivery designed to improve outcomes for patients and their families. Continuing education credits are available.
As Dr. Gitlin shared with GSA,
“Family caregivers are essential members of the care team, yet too often they must assume complex responsibilities without the preparation and support needed. The Confident Caregiver was created to change that — giving professionals practical tools to engage, educate, and empower caregivers so providers feel more confident working with caregivers and, in turn, caregivers are more confident in the care they provide.”
