Overview

Obesity is a chronic disease associated with treatable, but highly complex, pathophysiological processes and behavioral patterns. Despite this reality, the stigma associated with overweight and obesity prevents many patients and their providers from discussing the benefits of and options for treatment. Kickstarting a conversation about obesity with older adults requires an understanding of the pathophysiology of weight gain, along with an appreciation for communication concerns that affect conversations with older adults about weight.

Kickstart

This section of the GSA KAER Toolkit focuses on how to start conversations with people to prompt the initiation of a successful weight-management path that can help them improve their health outcomes.
