GSA offers a range of service opportunities, from quick “micro” tasks that take a few minutes to multi-year term positions and many in between. Some positions accept volunteers year-round. Others are open for recruitment during specific times of the year. Check this webpage in June and October for our primary call for volunteers!

Journal Editor-in-Chief Search Workgroups

• Biological Sciences Section of Series A- must be a Biological Sciences (BioSci) OR a Health Sciences (HS) primary section member

• The Gerontologist- must be a Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS) member OR a Social Research, Policy, and Practice (SRPP) primary section member

• Psychological Sciences Section of Series B- must be a Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS) primary section member

• New Open Access, Aging Research & Insights- open to GSA members of all disciplines


Term Length: 6 months


Time Commitment: Up to 10 hours total, including application review, meetings to discuss applicants, and interviews with selected candidates. 


Roles and Responsibilities:

• Assist a Program, Publications, and Products Committee Member

• Recommend and recruit candidates

• Assist with promotion of call for nominations and editor applications

• Provide feedback on the process and make recommendations for modifications

• Review applications for editorships and interview selected applicants

GSA Service Opportunities Guide

GSA volunteers are the lifeblood of the Society. Service opportunities include reviewing award and fellow nominations; organizing section-sponsored activities; producing 25 society-wide programs; reviewing abstract submissions; serving on the Board of Directors or your Section Officer team. Become a Journal Reviewer

All GSA journals are peer-reviewed and are open to new reviewers at any time. To serve as a peer reviewer, please go to the specific journal submission site, create an account, and enter your area(s) of expertise via keywords. Your expertise areas will be used by the editors when identifying reviewers for submitted manuscripts. If selected as a potential reviewer, you will receive an invitation to review from the editorial office.
