Now’s the Time to Contact Congress About the Impact of OMB’s Proposed Overhaul of Grant Regulations

In the face of a proposed rule that would result in greater political oversight of how federal grants are administered, there’s a new opportunity to speak up as scientist-citizens about the rule’s potential impact: by contacting Congress. The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) introduced this rule earlier this summer, and I thank everyone who answered GSA’s call to submit public comments. Nearly 500,000 individuals and organizations ended up responding to the OMB, with about 95% of the comments opposing the proposal.

Meet Top Defenders of Science in the New GSA Scientist-Citizen Podcast

GSA has launched a new Scientist-Citizen Podcast, and I'm honored to be serving as host. GSA is increasingly emphasizing the need for researchers to lean into the role of scientist-citizens: people committed to proactive public engagement that improves understanding of science and policies that support all of us as we age.  Scientist-Citizens are critical to a society where science is valued, facts matter, and democracy thrives.

Protecting Public Health: GSA Joins Organizations to Safeguard Vaccine Infrastructure

GSA has a longstanding commitment to advocating for age-appropriate immunizations across the life-course through our National Adult Vaccination Program and Concentric Value of Vaccinations campaign. Science is clear: vaccinations prevent disease and save lives. It’s time for a return to reverence for these medical innovations which, regrettably, are being undermined by the current administration. As we live in a world that sometimes forgets what is at stake without them, GSA is advancing work on several initiatives supporting the value of vaccines.

Action Item: Speak Up to Limit Political Oversight of Federal Grants

Calling all scientist-citizens: there is a need for you to make your voice heard in responding to a proposal that would give politically appointed officials authority over federal grant-making. This would represent a transformative shift in how grants are administered, with far-reaching implications, and we ask you to join with GSA in speaking up to both the presidential administration and Congress.
