GSA Providing Members Access to Certificate Course on Engaging with Family Caregivers
The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) is partnering with Plans4Care, Inc., to offer clinicians, care managers, and health and human service professionals a certificate in engaging family caregivers through The Confident Caregiver online course. It is an innovative, brief, self-paced training experience that provides the skills and tools necessary for participants to confidently engage with family caregivers of individuals with complex conditions as part of their workflows.
Developed by Laura N. Gitlin, PhD, FGSA, FAAN, and Catherine V. Piersol, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, FNAP, the course translates decades of research into six concise online modules that provide evidence-based frameworks, practical tools, a caregiver workbook, and a person-centered approach to care delivery designed to improve outcomes for patients and their families. Continuing education credits are available.
“Family caregivers are essential members of the care team,” Gitlin said, “yet too often they must assume complex responsibilities without the preparation and support needed. The Confident Caregiver was created to change that — giving professionals practical tools to engage, educate, and empower caregivers so providers feel more confident working with caregivers and, in turn, caregivers are more confident in the care they provide.”
Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of achievement and exclusive access to a Zoom-led community of practice that fosters peer exchange, implementation support, and opportunities to discuss real-world case challenges.
